United Arab Emirates has made advanced steps in the file of labor housing in terms of legislative frameworks and their translation on the ground in a manner that guarantees workers their right to adequate and decent housing that meets their comfort and safety requirements.
This file witnessed a strategic transformation after the Cabinet approved the General Standards Manual for Labor Housing in 2009, which is implemented by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation in cooperation with its partners from the relevant local and federal authorities, especially municipalities and civil defense.
The Ministry takes a set of measures to ascertain the extent of the establishments’ commitment to fulfilling the housing requirements and requirements, and at the forefront of these measures is the implementation of inspection visits to labor housing sites, whether those carried out by inspectors affiliated with the Ministry or joint inspection campaigns with the concerned local authorities.
The Ministry pays great attention to crystallizing a culture of occupational health and safety in the labor market through the implementation of many programs, including thousands of field visits to labor housing and work sites, especially construction sites, workshops and factories, which contributes to raising awareness of the importance of adherence to occupational health and safety means, and providing guidance on best practices. That would spare workers from exposure to work injuries and ward off risks for them, whether in external or internal work .
